Website Development & Custom Voting Plugin

Website development for Powerlist Mundo Negro — Mulheres Negras Mudam Histórias, the annual award by Mundo Negro (Brazil’s leading news portal for the Black community) that has been recognizing inspiring Black women’s trajectories since 2022, with its ceremony held in São Paulo. Working from the visual identity and design direction provided by the client, our role was the full technical implementation of the platform on WordPress with Elementor, including custom CSS/JavaScript to deliver the elegant black-and-white editorial aesthetic exactly as designed.

The centerpiece of the project was a custom-built popular voting plugin, developed specifically for the award’s two-phase voting system: in Phase 1, the public votes across the entire base of eligible candidates and the top 5 become finalists; in Phase 2, a new round of voting decides the winner. The plugin handles e-mail validation for each vote, enforces the one-vote-per-category-per-phase rule, and applies anti-fraud filters — blocking duplicates, temporary e-mail addresses, and suspicious voting patterns — ensuring the integrity of a high-visibility public vote.

The platform also structures the award’s full ecosystem: honoree profiles, technical jury categories, regulation and FAQ pages, and content for each edition. As an annual award, the engagement is recurring: we provide yearly maintenance and updates, preparing the site for each new edition and voting cycle.

Deliverables: full WordPress/Elementor development from client-provided design, custom two-phase voting plugin (e-mail validation and anti-fraud system), CSS/JavaScript customization, and yearly maintenance and updates for each edition.
